Ryder’s wines
Great Wines under $25
One day, a friend who owned a chain of giant wine stores in New York/New England asked me to spend some time in his biggest and tell him what I thought.
I told him his customers had no chance.
CURATED
There were over a thousand wines. Just looking at each bottle would take hours. Reading the labels more. Understanding quality, impossible. Understanding value, futile. And, no way to get educated fast. Most of the staff knew catch-phrases, a few brand names and what the bosses wanted sold. But, they weren’t really helpful.
Prices of bottles ranged from ten bucks to a thousand dollars.
Think about that.
RYDER’S Wine Department will be different. It’s purposely small. There will be less than a hundred wines. They have been carefully curated. My son Rob and wife Darlene, both excellent and experienced wine tasters, and I have been swilling and swirling and spitting for months to find wines acceptable for our customers. We found many and will find more.
guaranteed
When I was 21, I started studying and collecting wines. I soon focused on the world’s greatest wines in their best vintages; wines that now cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars per bottle. I collected thousands of bottles, and drank more than a few. I learned something really important. The best wines are meant to be aged; put away for 5-20 years. When they are ready they can be wonderful. But, they can be rough babies. The fact is 98% of people want a wine ready to drink now or next week. There are sensational wines being made for that purpose. That’s what we’ve been looking for at RYDER’S. We found them! We have at least one wine in the store right now for $25 that 70% of customers would pick in a blind tasting over a new $750 bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild. (Come by and I’ll tell you what it is.)
LITTLE TREASURES
RYDER’S wines come from small producers in Oregon, Washington, California, France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, Portugal, New Zealand and Australia. Most you will never have seen or heard of. We have interesting, uncommon grape varietals worth trying. We have delightful $10 wines to take to the beach. We have a lovely $12 Rose to sip on your patio and a rich red blend for $17 to enjoy while grilling. There are great varietals or wine blends that most people won’t buy because they are unknown to them and risky. Palates certainly differ. Not everyone will like everything. But, we take the risk out. You can have the fun of tasting several of RYDER’S “little treasures” for the price of a single well-known California Cabernet. That’s what we designed RYDER’S for - searching, tasting, finding, sharing and enjoying inexpensively. Our wines are meant to be fun!
